Characteristics and Complexities

Maintenance
In Spine-Chilling Village rituals are a large part in the lifestyles of the Monstarians. In order for the Monstarian children to be accepted into the society they must be educated. This education allows them to receive advice from elders, learn about their history and train for their roles that they will play within the village. Having this educational experience will help the young monsters to become socially connected with the others within the village.

The Monstarians religious beliefs play a large role within their society. The ritual of screeching brings the village together to help a monster become cleansed and accepted into their religion, Creaturism. Being a part of this religion allows them to participate in the community activities and environmental rituals such as Freak Week. During this week the villagers unite to replenish, care for, and reflect on the environment. This is one of the most important rituals the Monstarians participate in. The environment is a vital component of life for these villagers. Many of the monsters live off of the environment whether it is in caves, water, plants or any other element within the land. Caring for the environment is something that you are taught as a child and an act that you will participate in from the time you are accepted into Creaturism until the end of your life.

Couples show their commitment to both the environment and the other Monstarians when they enter into marriage. In preparation for the marriage ceremony the couple must ask the villagers and Dr. Frankenstein for acceptance. The whole village must come together to help prepare for the ceremony. The couple wears green to show that they are in an environmentally pure state of mind. This ritual brings not only the new couple together but also the community.

Education, religious practices, marriage and birth, and their environmental responsibilities are some of the important rituals that holds the village together. The Monstarians come together during each of these rituals to support one another and to grow as a village.

Perpetuation

During Freak Week the Monstarians come together to participate in several cultural rituals. This week allows the villagers to remind themselves and each other of what is important to their survival and what their commitments are to maintain it. Each day is dedicated to another part of the ritual in which all of the Creaturism accepted villagers must participate in. The involvement in the activities throughout the week strengthens the village as a whole and allows them to reflect on one another. At the end of the week the Monstarians partake in a celebration to show their appreciation of one another and to be proud of what they have accomplished.

In the course of preparing for the marriage ceremonies the village joins together to help prepare the new couple for their journey of togetherness. Every birth and marriage is conducted in the center of town at the Creation Station. The Creation Station is where the first monster was created. This sacred spot is said to have powers to help the monsters to succeed in their life. Conducting rituals in this place allows all of the monsters to be connected because they all begin their life in this spot and then their connection grows as they return to this sacred place to become married.

Ideology

All of the rituals that the Monstarians participate in show a part of their culture that makes up who they are. The environment is crucial for the survival of many of the monsters living in the village. Taking part in the everyday contributions to keep the environment healthy, such as cleaning and recycling is a norm for everyone in the village. All of their energy is believed to be borrowed from mother earth. They show their respect of this by giving back as much as possible.  They believe that if they do not keep these values that they will be punished by the deities. The children learn this at an early age and continue their education of these actions while they are attending Monster High. The attendance at Monster High is a significant rite-of-passage. The students learn extensively on the history of the village and the people who helped build it into what it is today. Each of the rituals that are conducted involves the whole village. The Monstarians are extremely close and rely on one another to keep the normal function of Spine-Chilling Village on an everyday basis while also showing their core values to the environment.
